Pamukkale's terraces. Pamukkale is a natural site in Turkey that is famous for its white terraces made of travertine, a sedimentary rock deposited by water. The terraces are formed by hot springs that flow down the hillside and deposit calcium carbonate, which solidifies into the unique formations. Visitors can walk on the terraces and even bathe in the warm pools created by the hot springs. While the terraces may seem unusual, they are a popular tourist destination and have been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
