People naively claiming Starmer is ‘of the left’ just like the French coalition are completely wrong.
France’s New Popular Front is an alliance of Socialists, Ecologists, Communists and France Unbowed (LFI), led by Jean-Luc Mélenchon.
Mélenchon has refused to call Hamas a terrorist group, accused NATO of being at least partially to blame for the war in Ukraine, and said Israel does not have the right to self-defence under international law due to it occupying Gaza.
On the contrary, Keir Starmer unequivocally supported genocide and ethnic cleansing in Gaza and supports an endless war in Ukraine, subservient to NATO/US imperialism.
The differences are as stark as night and day:
Mélenchon is a seasoned leftist and anti-imperialist who stands for peace and justice in the world;
Starmer is a hollow neoliberal with no consistent values other than to serve the interests of power and wealth.
