The Waterfall

A poem in the style of Rumi of the waterfall rushing water downwards

The Waterfall

O listener, come see this river's cascade

Where myriad drops in joyous dance are made

Each fleck of foam, a dervish whirling free

Revolving ever down to mystery

Through rippling veils the current's essence flies

Concealed, revealed before these watching eyes

Veiled in this flowing form, still it is He

Who dances veiled in every jot that we see

Each glint of spray that greets the glancing sun

Another atom by the Beloved spun

This fluid flesh he wears to draw our souls

Through forms forever shifting, toward Love's goals

So drink this falling dance as Sufis drink their wine

Each drop dissolve your drops of "I" and "mine"

Leap into that white torrent whirling now

And let its force your every bond undo

Till down life's waterfall no trace survive

Except the trace your tracelessness will leave
