Elon Musk’s X Metaverse: Potential Game-Changer, Says Dogecoin Founder

The co-creator of Dogecoin thinks that if Elon Musk’s company, X, were to create a metaverse, it could pose a significant challenge to a similar product being developed by Mark Zuckerberg’s Meta.

Billy Markus, one of the founders of Dogecoin, known for being a vocal supporter of tech mogul Elon Musk and his ventures, especially Twitter/X, recently expressed his support for the social media platform in a tweet. Billy Markus also mentioned that it would be a groundbreaking move if Elon Musk chose to develop a metaverse using the X app.

Billy Markus Praises Elon Musk’s X App and its Evolution

Today, Dogecoin co-founder Billy Markus took to Twitter to commend Elon Musk’s X app, acquired in October 2022 when it was still known as Twitter. Musk initiated a rebranding effort, transforming Twitter into X and introducing new features, particularly aimed at enticing content creators. The additions included tools for crafting extensive posts and engaging in live videos, attracting notable figures like political commentator Tucker Carlson.
Tucker Carlson, formerly of Fox News, transitioned his show to X after parting ways with his previous network. Musk’s innovative tool set facilitates content creators‘ livelihoods through features like Monetization and Subscription. However, the platform’s decision to charge users for verification checks stirred discontent. Musk personally covers the verification costs for individuals like horror writer Stephen King and Star Trek actor William Shatner, who declined the $8 monthly fee and considered leaving the platform.

As one of the content creators benefiting from the Monetization feature, Markus receives monthly payouts for advertisements alongside his posts, particularly those generating substantial comment threads. Additionally, he has subscribers who contribute a few dollars each month, showcasing the functionality of X’s Subscription feature.

Billy Markus Advocates for X to Construct a Metaverse

In a recent Twitter thread, Dogecoin co-founder Billy Markus expressed his support for Elon Musk’s X app, suggesting that it should venture into building a metaverse. He envisioned the possibility of a virtual conflict with Meta’s metaverse, led by Mark Zuckerberg, who hasn’t garnered favor on X. The sentiment stems from Zuckerberg’s replication of X threads in his newly launched app, Threads.

Despite the apparent discontent, Elon Musk chose not to pursue legal action and instead proposed a cage fight. Both Musk and Zuckerberg initially agreed on several dates and locations for the fight, but Zuckerberg subsequently withdrew quietly. The episode added a touch of humor to the ongoing competition between the tech giants.
