.Chapter 13 is all about a really unusual, super cool plant called the Rafflesia.

Imagine a flower bigger than a bicycle wheel, a flower that doesn't hamper itself with leaves, stems, or roots! That's the Giant Rafflesia for you! It's a unique, gigantic flower that grows in specific regions of Malaysia and Borneo. It's like the celebrity of all flowers because it's the biggest in the world! You'd find it hiding in the rainforest areas of a place called Lojing, near the edge of Cameron Highlands, towards Gua Musang. Oh, and this flower is a bit of a naughty one. It doesn't grow its own food like other flowers, but borrows (or rather steals) nutrients from other plants. This sneaky behavior is what we call being 'parasitic'. So, the Giant Rafflesia isn't just the largest flower in the world, it's also one cheeky plant!

This plant is often called the 'corpse flower,' because it's got a huge flower that can get up to a meter wide (that's longer than a yardstick!) but also because it kind of looks like rotting meat. And it doesn't only look like it, it also stinks like it. Gross, right? But this smell is actually really helpful for the plant because it attracts flies which help it pollinate.

What's even stranger about this plant is that it doesn't look like most plants. It doesn't have roots or leaves or a stem - it actually lives off of another host plant, kind of like a parasite. And although it kind of sounds like a scary monster out of a horror movie, it's not all doom and gloom - scientists think the Rafflesia plant could have potential to be used in medicine because of the unique substances it makes.

The only problem is, because it relies on its host plant and certain flies to live, and with the balance of its environment being fragile, it's a tough job to try to grow more of these plants. It's almost like trying to keep a really picky pet!

In this chapter, we're really diving deep into everything that makes the Rafflesia plant special, and trying to figure out how we can take advantage of its potential. And throughout the process, we learn a pretty important lesson about how everything on Earth is connected and needs to work together to survive.

So get ready to dive into the amazing world of the Rafflesia plant in this chapter, it's sure to be a journey full of fascinating stories and new discoveries!
