I worry having to respond to this inquiry since I am unable to do it swiftly and truthfully. I could say, "Oh, anything!" but that would make me sound like one of those individuals who doesn't really care about music at all and just says they like everything. I might say, "I like experimental hip-hop," and although that is true—I do like experimental hip-hop—it wouldn't be the whole truth—as it is only one of the many other genres I enjoy.
I don't really have a music taste as much as I have a manner of accessing, understanding, and digesting music, which is the only completely honest response to this question. I take satisfaction in learning about and attempting to comprehend as many different musical expressions as I can, and the genre is never a guarantee as to whether or not I will enjoy or despise a piece of music.
But that would take a very long time to say, and the other person would probably get confused. What do you say when people inquire about your musical tastes, and how do I handle these awkward circumstances?
